Matthew David Crowther is a Chicago based artist, publisher, and educator. Born in Upstate New York in 1980, he received a BA from Fordham University and an MFA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His work has been exhibited nationally in venues such as the Colorado Photographic Arts Center in Denver, CO, 516 Arts in Albuquerque, NM and Guest Spot in Baltimore, MD. It has been featured online by sites such as Fraction Magazine, Lenscratch, and Aint-Bad as well as being published by Oranbeg Press, Same Coin Press, and Empty Stretch among others.
Crowther’s work investigates the narrative possibilities of photography as a means of exploring personal history, environmentalism, and contemporary culture. In addition to his own studio practice he is the founder of Halfmoon Projects, a small press that publishes work by emerging artists.
